– Acrylic on paper
Monoprints is a collection of experiments exploring colour, texture, and the incorporation of natural fibers. Layers and texture are introduced by applying paint through acetate and acrylic screens. Interlaying hemp yarn between the print and screen provides a mask between printed layers, instilling a thread of connectivity between dissimilar applications of colour.
Monoprint implies a single application, one mask delineated by difference in shape and colour from the whole. By monoprinting multiple layers, each piece becomes multiple monoprints, sharing diversity of colour and texture with the greater collection.
Natural fiber provides continuity between layers in each individual piece as the collection shares representations of the negative space introduced by its incorporation; each individual piece in the collection hints at a more cohesive whole.
