Decay

Digital manipulation of distressed knitted samples

The disintegration of composition, Decay is natural dissolution, a deterioration that sustains regeneration. Decomposition creates space for new representations and forms. Digital manipulations are created from damage, as samples knitted and destroyed feed new compositions. Digital representation is an imperfect depiction of an underlying analogue. In lines of binary imitation, digital image inaccurately portrays and instead betrays the original in a form of representative decay. A divergence from accurate depiction, manipulation is now generative, creation from degeneration. Prints and patterns surface as restored representations—tears become ladders and holes, positive space.
