Distortion

Laser cut recycled acrylic

Distortion is divergence from the known, a departure in form and familiarity. A transformation of an irrecoverable original, reflective in connotation and reminiscent in anatomy. Twisted, skewed, and altered.

Through a re-interpretation of the surface of the human body, novel forms emerge as representations of the original self. These distorted shapes draw structural influence from the human form, elevating their inspiration in their creation. The resulting twisted silhouettes share likeness in their origin, shape-shadows cast by an illumination of the human subject. In altering the perspective from which these silhouettes are viewed, a diversity of contours is made present, reflecting varying facets of the personal.
